The Cost of Hiring a Mobile Catering Unit
The cost of hiring a Mobile Catering Unit is one of the main questions we get asked every week. This is a tough question but it is one that we can answer as we have been pricing jobs since we started in 2015.
The problem is that a job always varies. It will depend on how many guests you have, your location and what type of catering is required. Sometimes the date will also be a factor as it can be more expensive to arrange catering during peak seasonal periods like Christmas or St. Patricks Day.
Below are some average prices when you are looking to hire a bike or wagon for your party.
Pricing by Unit Type and Number of Eaters
The type of unit that you need changes the rental costs of your catering more than any other factor. The bicycle is perfect for small bespoke events such as communions while our wagon can deal with larger numbers (200+) quicker so your guests are not kept waiting for their food. Of course we can also offer the bicycle and wagon together as a package which can be negotiated.

If you’re having a small party of 50 guests or less, you’ll probably be affected by our rental minimums. This may cause the price per person to increase. We set a minimum purely because it’s not economical to drive a restaurant to an event. Fuel costs, product expenses, generator hire, staffing, and travel time are just a few of the outlays that we have to take into consideration.
Extras which also need to be thought about are the selection of toppings and catering to the needs of Vegan or Coeliac guests.
Factors that affect Catering Unit Prices
1. Type of Event
Corporate Events
Corporate events are totally dependent on the catering budget set by your company. If you’re having a large event that needs multiple caterers, this will usually increase the price per person. Our corporate prices start at €9 per person but we can also provide a crepe buffet if needed.
Private Events - Communions, Birthday Parties, Graduations
The table above is a pretty good guide for what a typical private party rental will cost. However, everything is negotiable. We recently catered for a big all-nighter Birthday party up in the Dublin Mountains with a rock band beside us, so we can manage anything!
Weddings
If you’re looking to rent a Catering Unit for your wedding, the pricing is different in comparison to a private party. This is because weddings have more of a complicated set up. Pricing tends to be higher but it is still quite affordable. We can set up outside the church or inside the hotel at your drinks reception once we have permission from the hotel. Our minimum price for a wedding is €450 for the bicycle.
2. Party Location
Location is another factor that affects the cost of renting a Catering Unit. Dublin is expensive but it is where we are located so we have less travel costs. If your party is outside Dublin or in in a rural location, prices will vary depending on availability.
Typically the longer the distance we have to travel, the more fees will be added. Something else to think about when renting a Mobile Catering Unit is the location of the party itself. Public spaces often require a license, while private property will need enough space for us to park, set up and operate, although a driveway is plenty room for us.
3. Date of Your Event
Also, as we hinted at above, prices will change depending on when your party takes place. During popular holidays, such as Christmas time, caterers book up, and this will effect pricing (especially for last minute bookings).
